Eighteen months ago I started making notes beside swimming pools.
At first it was simply a way of slowing down and paying attention. A flamingo drifting towards the deep end. Ice collapsing in a glass. A swimmer adjusting their goggles. Nothing especially important. Yet the longer I sat and watched, the more these small details seemed to gather weight.
What followed became Pool Diaries: a body of work built around pools from Palm Springs to Bondi, from celebrated architectural landmarks to private retreats hidden behind garden walls. Some were visited in person. Others existed only through photographs and imagination. All became stages for the peculiar rituals of leisure, performance, escape and observation.
The works draw upon hundreds of timestamped observations recorded throughout entire days. Together they document not just swimming pools, but the lives that briefly gather around them.
Pool Diaries opens at RHODES on 9th July 2026.
I look forward to sharing it with you.
